Ships are running for harbor in the dark and can't see the reef. Sweep your beam across each one until its lantern catches. Lit ships steer for a gap in the breakwater. Ships you miss will hit the rocks.
Aim

Flare
Hold Space, the mouse button, or the Flare button for a wider beam. It burns oil fast.
